Devlog #2 - The Best Case One Case One Can Be, pt. 2

Hi everyone! Lots of stuff to talk about this time, so I'll get right to it! I'd also like to take this opportunity to encourage anyone interested in following my development of this VN to follow me on Twitter, @_DomeDev

Supporting me on Patreon

Something really exciting that starts today is that my Patreon is open! By joining for as little as $5 a month, you'll get access to exclusive behind-the-scenes screenshots, the visual novel's soundtrack, a spot in the credits, and of course, my thanks. At higher tiers, you'll receive early access to in-progress cases, custom character sprites for your own OCs monthly, or even an in-game character with an OC of your choosing! Whatever tier you decide to join, you'll still be getting an exclusive look into the development process for 1000AoD, and allowing me to spend more of my time creating it!

To celebrate this milestone, I've posted a special art raffle on my Twitter that runs until the end of February! All you need to do is follow me on my Twitter (@_DomeDev), go to the post linked below, and like and repost it for the chance to be receive one of 10 full-body custom character sprites, or one of 30 custom character mugshots!

The Changes

Like the prior Devlog, I’ll list the changes I’ve made and then go into some of them in a more in-depth manner.

  • Herb and Shallot have brand new sprites implemented
  • Cut-in sprites for RJ, Chive, Herb were redone
  • Redid two illustrations, one from Investigation 1, and the other from Investigation 3
  • Fixed a few spelling/formatting mistakes
  • Gave the player the ability to decide when to start Debates, rather than auto-playing the cutscene that segues to them.

The first ones are pretty self-explanatory: since I redid the sprites for Chive and RJ, I wanted to finish up by redoing Herb and Shallot’s sprites as well, in addition to some other art assets that weren’t up to my standards. Now, the last change is the one I’m really excited about- giving the player the choice of when to end the investigations once they’ve raised all the metaphorical flags. This was a really fantastic suggestion I got in the comments, and it was very easy to implement, too! Don’t worry, the game will still inform you when all the clues have been gathered, but now you can choose if you want to go immediately to the debate, or if you’d like to explore some of the non-critical dialogue first.

Next Time, on One Thousand Acts of Decency…

Now that Case 1 is more-or-less finished, I’ll be moving my attention onto the second and third case. The second case, which I briefly touched upon in my first Devlog, is all done, but just needs some reworking. That means that the sprites, music, 3d models, and even the writing has been completed… It’s just that some of the writing ought to be redone, so that the plot of the case flows better. I don’t have a date in mind for when that’ll be done, currently. In the meantime, I’ll drop a brief tease as to what’s to come in Case 2.

At the behest of Campanita Mooney, one of Chive’s cousins, Chive (along with Shallot and Oscar,) make their way to the Scrapyard that Campanita is the interim manager of. What was initially promised to be a simple investigation into some thefts quickly spirals out of control after an unidentified corpse is found crushed within a piece of machinery at the yard. Using all his wits, Chive will need to put an end to the thefts, solve the murder, and free himself from the dome in Case 002, Caught in the Nightmares of Those Who Can’t Distinguish Reality from Fiction.

Until next time, take care!
